What is White Stag?

White Stag is a youth leader development program that has been successfully training young people since 1958.  It is operated by Boy Scout Venturing Crew 122 which also provides the adult and youth staff.   This week long training program is held each summer.

Venturing Crew 122 is chartered in three Northern California Boy Scout Councils:  Greater Yosemite Council, San Francisco Bay Area Council and Mt. Diablo/Silverado Council.

Program Phases

The White Stag program is divided into three Phases with each one operating as a separate Scout Troop.  Candidates are assigned to a Phase according to their age and experience.

Phase I — Patrol member development

Phase II — Patrol Leader Development

Phase III — Troop Leader Development

Six Year Training Cycle

Youth staff positions in each Phase are also leadership training experiences.  Thus, White Stag can be a six year youth leadership training program with different learning experiences each year.  This is accomplished by serving in each Phase as a candidate and then as a member of the youth staff.  The staff of each Phase, both youth and adult, meets several times during the year to plan and prepare their program.
